By painting directly onto used pieces of metal he gives his work a raw, urban immediacy. The subjects of his art are also found in and around London, enabling Matt to bypass the posed, staginess of a lot of portraiture.

Executed with astonishingly textured brushstrokes, Matt produces works with a thick visceral painterly quality that feel both abstract and incredibly real and vital.
