Biography
Since graduating 8 years ago, Ian has happily worked as an art director. In his spare time, he has been busy documenting over six hundred aerials. With ʻI like aerialsʼ, Ian has taken the inconsequential colonies of aerials which sit on our rooftops and catalogued them like an anthropological study. Treated as objects of art, you are given room to enjoy their unique sculptural qualities. Stripped back to their basic essence, the aerials are presented as cultural artifacts, each possessing an individual beauty.
ʻI like aerialsʼ takes the ubiquitous antennae and gives it a context in which we can think about the power and influence of televsion. The project was previously published as part of a smaller collection in the McSweeneyʼs quarterly, whilst Ian was living in New York.
