Tresspassers of the world Unite
28th May 2009

On Thursday 28th May 2009, The Toasters and fifteen of their fellow trespassers, some of Europe’s most influential artists from the world of street art, will come together in East London for a collaborative exhibition. The Toasters, one of the original pioneers of street art in the UK and globally, have entertained the streets since 1999, appearing on posters, banners, stickers and murals all over the world in Berlin, Stockholm, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Sydney, New York, Paris, Peckham... everywhere!

Born on a cold New Years Eve in 1998, over a kitchen table in Wolverhampton, The Toaster project started life as an idea of how to make a mundane object famous, subverting the image by its placement and its graphic rendering! The Toaster project grew and has inevitably over the years created more questions than answers along the way.

Set deep in the roots of New York 'crew culture' and the graffiti and street art movement, is the notion of collaboration; working together towards a common goal of painting a train, a wall or to breakdance. Trespassers of the World Unite is a celebration of the last 10 years on the street for the infamous Toasters and a nod to those artists who they have respected over the years – hand picked through their long standing friendships, ripe talent and a maturity of work that has seen these artists at the forefront of the Graffiti movement since it's explosion in the mid 1980's.

A total of fifteen artists are involved in the collaborative exhibition with The Toasters; Will Barras, Bomb Kid, Butch, Crackrock, Dicy, Eco, Erosie, Influenza, Mr Jago, Late, Paris, Phet, Rabodiga, space3 and Zime.

Trespassers of the World Unite will take place on the evening of Thursday 28th May 2009 at as yet an undisclosed location in Hoxton… an area where all the artists exhibiting have in the last decade painted, pasted, trespassed and ran away from the police with The Toasters.

Will Barras
Illustrator and artist and highly sort after both for commercial and private commissions. He is hailed as one of the visual artists who best represent the influential skate and snowboarding creative movement.

Bomb Kid
His name 'Bomb' is duplicated by his ego. For the past 20 years he has written graffiti and walked the thin line between vandalism and art.

Butch
Dutch Butch, a renaissance man and all round 'bon vivant'. His bold, colourful, warm-hued and exotic projects are embraced by his symbolic folkloric themes depicting scenes from everyday historical Gypsy life.

Crackrock
Holland's most distinguished botanical artist is a cosmic scientist and concept profiler all in. A leading player in art collective 'Betamaxxx' he has a fascination with the unique and unusual, born out in his multi-media artworks.

Dicy
Born and raised in the West Midlands, Dicy soon became addicted to the explosion of the UK graffiti scene after the seminal hip-hop documentary 'Style Wars' in 1987. Moving to Bristol he became part of the TCF crew and a major player in developing the now world famous Bristol street scene through organising exhibitions. Intially known for his letter forms, Dicy's style has evolved into the twisted and the abstract with the 'flow' of the content being the key element to his work.

Eco
WSSK crew member Eco spent his formative years painting in the late 80's Hull graffiti scene, relocating to Bristol in the 90's. In his long established relationship with walls he has injected no small amount of irony and a little self deprecation into the confides of traditional street art.

Erosie
The exceptional talent of Erosie looks for the parellel between, and the nuances of the graffiti codes and illustrated image, commercial visual language and the traditions of art. He tries to use, confirm, deny or question these fields visually and/or conceptually in the quest to define his personal visual language.

Influenza
Jeroen Jongeleen's sticker and graffiti actions counter the standardised and commercialized inner-city spaces with subtle interventions under the label 'Influenza'. Jongeleen continously develops new signs, figures and texts. He often makes direct reference to the hegemony of architectural structures and public advertising displays, shifts or supplements of visual codes. He has shown his work extensively throughout the world.

Mr Jago
Bristol based Mr Jago is considered a veteran of the urban art and design scene. Described as a pioneer of the 'doodle' or 'scrawl' movement, Jago's loose lines and organic flow are itchy and dynamic. His multi-layered landscapes and robotic characters have been exhibited across the globe from London and Milan to LA and Tokyo. Admired by those with an interest in urban and street art, his work is also popular with traditional art enthusiasts.

Late
Too Late, SOL crew. Less talk more walk. He speaks with his hands, usually at night.

Paris
Raised in the lowlands of East Yorkshire, a Virgo and a man of letters. WSSK and TCF's very own Fish 'n' Chips lover began his writing career in 1987 at the time when UK graffiti had reached it's 'belle epoch'. Paris's futuristic fonts and decorative motifs are inspired by Bladerunner and the Dairy Milk advert on TV.

Phet
Featured in the renowned graffiti book 'Spraycan Art' in 1985, Phet (known as 'Freaky' in a previous life) is one of only a dirty handful of old-skool graffiti writers who can justifiably claim to have been active in the European graffiti scene during it's conception. ''In Eindhoven we've got a hall of fame too, but there's almost no room left''. A legend. End of.

Rabodiga
Hailing from Zaragoza, Rabodiga paints girls who are her own alter ego; a way of communication between herself and the world. Her characters represent her feelings, her humour and her place in the world. Apart from Rabodiga's passion for her art she would like you to know she has no plans apart from living la vida loca!

space3
For the past 14 years Dutch based space3 have enriched and confused over-commercialized public spaces with stickers and poster art. They have shown their work internationally and recently published 'Plakboek Eindhoven' documenting the Eindhoven street scene.

Zime
The founder member of the highly respected SOL crew, Zime spent his childhood drawing and playing computer games on his Philips Videopac. In 1998 his traditional graffiti letters were transformed into geometric letters and his labyrinth style was born. He has placed his stickers in most cities across the world. You can find one on a lamp post near you.
