- Artist Biography
Barcelona-based artist and illustrator Cinta Vidal Agulló defies gravity and architectural conventions to create encapsulated scenes of intersecting perspectives. Painted with acrylic on wood panels, Vidal refers to the paintings as “un-gravity constructions” and says that each piece examines how a person’s internal perspective of life may not match up with the reality around them.
- Artwork Analysis
Vidal’s penchant for miniature world’s stem from her past as a scenery painter in the world’s most famous opera scenography atelier. Her topsy-turvy worlds are inspired by both MC Escher and Hayao Miyazaki’s 2004 film ‘Howl’s Moving castle’ and revels in the fantasy and exploration of the every day turned upside down. Vidal sees her work as a metaphor for the ways in which we shape our world – ‘The impossibility of completely understanding those around us, yet the personal ability to navigate the maze of life we all inhabit.’
