Alan Cameron is a printmaker based in Dumfries and Galloway, surrounded by the woodlands that inspire much of his practice.
He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and, after graduating in 2010, worked at Glasgow Print Studio. This was a formative period, offering the opportunity to work alongside and learn from many distinguished artists, including John Byrne, Philip Reeves and Ciara Phillips. His time there greatly expanded his technical knowledge and helped to shape his approach to printmaking.
Since relocating to Galloway, his work has taken a new direction. Without access to a press, he began developing ways of working directly with materials from the landscape, creating woodcut relief prints from sections of fallen or cut trees. The resulting works are both records and reflections — impressions of time, growth and place.
Recent exhibitions include Spring Fling, Decade at Kirkcudbright Galleries, Landmarks at Glasgow Print Studio, and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2024 & 2025).
