Amelia was born in London in 1974. Her work often explores subcultures, identity, and the spaces where personal and collective histories meet.
In 1996, she received the Ian Parry Award for her series The Dublin Urban Cowboys. She was selected for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam in 1998, and in 1999 was runner-up for the Infinity Award for Young Photographer of the Year from the International Center of Photography in New York.
Her first book, The Trouble with Amelia (Booth-Clibborn Editions, 2003), was followed by Malta Diaries (Trolley Books, 2006) and Joan of Arc Had Style (Trolley Books, 2015). She has also published five zines: Manchester 1997, Chaos England 1995–2020, Motorhead 1997, and Soho 1999.
She is currently based in East London.
