- Artist Biography
Patrick Thomas has never been afraid to express his opinion and observations of modern society via a carefully honed and masterful manipulation of common signs and symbols. The artist is a true ‘iconographiste.’
Thomas’ graphic production is rooted in the popular imagery that is routinely repurposed and recomposed, transforming the most common visual artifacts into uncommon commentary on society and politics.
- Artwork Analysis
Patrick Thomas’ striking artworks are charged with the power of the icon, ingeniously demonstrated in the artist’s ‘Che’ series in which Thomas subverts the image of social revolutionary Che Guevara; composed entirely out of a carefully selected array of graphics which dominate modern capitalist culture, and indeed the picture surface. The juxtaposition of signs & symbols challenges the viewer to reconsider long established icons such as that of Guevara, alongside those now embedded in modern society.
