In this reimagination of one of Van Gogh’s most celebrated paintings, ‘Self Portrait 1889’ Smith manages to convey all the colour and light captured by Van Gogh’s masterful brush strokes through a series of painstakingly designed colour chips. Every chip is accompanied by text corresponding to its colour (our favourite is ‘Guacamole’) and results in a tongue-in-cheek amalgamation of colour and words with a nod to the main man, Van Gogh.
