Fresh from the studio of Dan Hillier comes a new screen print that sings with the promise of good things to come.
A testament to Hillier’s meticulous knack for reimagining and recontextualising 19th century engravings, this piece is based on two beautiful steel engravings by Robert Smirke and Friedrich Knolle in 1794 and 1854.
The face, based on Knolles’ 1854 engraving after Domenichino’s painting of St Catherine is beautifully reimagined in plumes of thick smoke, intricately built up by Hillier to create the stark contrast between the figure and the clean background.
Reminiscent of some of his early works, this stunning edition will add the perfect amount of romance and drama to any wall.
